Martine is told that her only living relative left is her grandmother in Africa. Martine is also very surprised at hearing that because her parents never told her that she even had a grandmother, let alone the fact that she lives in Africa. Martine thinks her life is falling apart, but it turns out that she really likes Africa, and she makes a special friend too. When Martine arrives in Africa, she finds out that her grandmother lives on a game reserve, and there have been sightings of a white giraffe. Martine meets the white giraffe, and she discovers that his name is Jemmy. Jemmy is one of the rarest animals on the game reserve, and because of that he must stay away from all humans because if he was to be spotted he would be shot and sold for millions of dollars. Jemmy is part of a prophecy, and so is Martine. I thought it wasn't going to be very creative, but it is amazing what one person can do to make an average subject so interesting. This book was all about different poems of apology. I think some of the reasons they were apologizing were kind of weird, but it made the book even more appealing. This book reminds me of some of Shel Silverstein's books because they are mostly funny poems, and there are all different kinds of poems, some of them rhyme and some of them don't. Some of the types of poems in the book are acrostic, free verse and couplet. That was one of my favorite lines because for the first few chapters you didn't know that, the author was saving it until you got a feel for what type of character Georgie is. Georgie goes to a normal school like a normal kid, and he gets treated like a normal kid, except for the fact that he has a special stool in front of the chalkboard just for him, and his coat hook is much shorter than all of the others. He likes to be an only child because he gets lots of attention, but all of that changes when his mother announces that she is going to have a second child. This book is very inspiring because it is about a young girl who is forced to stay with her grandparents while her parents go on a trip. The girl's name is Samantha, and she studies world records and general facts of the world. Samantha's grandfather used to be a pilot, but his vision got worse and worse so he was forced to give up his flying career. He was not very happy about it, and he thought that he should have one more chance at flying. So he did. Every year there is a big contest on who can build the best airplane, and every year he enters it. This year is different. Ever since he had to give up his career, he knew that if he got caught building the plane for the contest, he would be in big trouble. It was not boring, though it was quite hard to understand. This book is definitely a mystery. It starts out with a girl named Emmy. She lives with her nanny, in the mansion they inherited from Emmy's relative. Her parents are always going on long trips, and they seem to forget all about Emmy. She has always been wondering why. Now she has found out. Emmy has a class pet in her school. It is a rat, and he is her only friend. Everyone else in the class looks right through her, because of the nanny. The nanny goes to a rat store each week to get a rat potion that she puts on a candle when she comes in for silent reading, and it makes everyone else forget about Emmy, and she does the same thing with Emmy's parents. Emmy hates her nanny, and her nanny hates her. In the beginning of the school year, Emmy got bitten by the rat, and then she could talk to him. She heard him talking about freedom, and she let him out of his cage. She followed him after that and figured out that he had never been free before. He was looking for shelter and ended up getting hit in the head with an acorn. One thing that I found interesting was if you flip through the pages very fast, on the right page there is a rat cartoon and he falls down and lands in Emmy's hand. 2009 1 2008-09-20 10:34:43

This book is almost like a mystery. Hugo Cabret used to go to school and do all the things a normal kid would. His dad worked at a museum, and he used to be alone quite a bit, but it was okay. Then one night, his dad found a thing called an automaton. It was broken, so he was trying to fix it. That didn't work out so well. One night, his dad was working on it in the attic of the museum, and the janitor accidentally locked the door because he had forgotten that he was still there, and the museum was set on fire. Hugo's father died, but Hugo managed to find the automaton. After that, Hugo's only relative was his uncle. His uncle worked in the walls of a train station, and he was trained to wind up all of the clocks twice per day so they kept running like they should. Hugo was forced to do the same. His uncle taught him how to keep the clocks going, and Hugo had to stay in his little room inside the walls of the station, forced to steal food because he couldn't afford it himself. He worked on the automaton day and night, trying to fix it and get the message that it would write. One day, he was stealing parts for the automaton from a toy shop, and the old man that owns it caught him. He took him by the arm and called the station worker to come and get him. Hugo managed to get away, but he had to start working at the shop to pay for all of the things that he stole. X 2 SSESAlyssa Lawn Boy Great! Don't miss this one. This book was very exciting, and I think it is sure to please any reader who is looking for a funny quick-read. It starts out with a boy (it doesn't mention his name) who needs a new part for his bike. Then his grandmother gives him an old lawnmower for his birthday. He was lucky. He figured he could make a little bit of money by mowing lawns. It started out when he was testing it out on his front lawn, then his neighbor came by and asked him how much it would cost for the boy to mow his lawn. So he did, and he got about $15.00. He was pretty excited, but things just got better from there. After that he was doing about seven lawns per day and getting oodles of cash. He started mowing larger lawns, so he was getting more money. Then he met this man named Arnold, and he offered to invest the boy's money in stocks so he can get more money. Now, the boy (who is only 12) said yes because he wanted more money. Meanwhile, he still hadn't told his parents that he had gotten more than a few dollars (he actually got about $50,000) from mowing lawns. His mother is a teacher, and his father is a scientist, so money comes and goes. This book is also full of adventures, so I'm sure just about anyone would like it. 2009 1 2008-09-19 21:00:07
